WESSEL VERRIJT—THE CATALYSTS

We proudly present The Catalysts, a solo exhibition by Wessel Verrijt at the home of Das Leben am Haverkamp.

19 June 2021–27 June 2021

Wessel Verrijt (1992, Eindhoven) builds sculptures that play the leading role as 'entities' within his rituals. In the rituals he creates, his props, set and protagonists come together to form an immersive installation. Within the immersive installations there is a fine line between art, theater and choreography, in order to create a new mythology of symbols and meaning.

In 2018 Verrijt graduated with the Parade of Autonomists in which building-like entities made of wood, cardboard and textiles explored the streets. It is his dream to travel from place to place with his own 'fair', consisting of large installations, with self-made trucks and folding instalment in which performances take place. At his first exhibition he introduced his work named Het Verrijtbaar Museum (The Mobile Museum). Verrijt's current work hints at this ambition, continuously prototyping this future fair.

Treasuring on construction sites, in alleys and containers, Verrijt collects his materials for the installations at the location where he is currently working. Seemingly effortlesly he transforms discarted cardboard boxes, polystyrene foem and drying frames.

The collective regularly invites like-minded artists or human beings who they envy for being so incredibly talented. The guest star joins the collective for a while – imagining and executing any dream that fits the dimensions of the square room. Their sparks become part of Das Leben am Haverkamp, if only for a moment.
