On the 5th of June we will screen the documentary The Kingmaker in the context of the exhibition Diamonds in Diapers by Jose Marie Sta. Iglesia. Join us for the screening followed by a Q&A with Jose Marie Sta. Iglesia.
The documentary The Kingmaker (2019, Lauren Greenfield) gives an extraordinary look into the political career of Imelda Marcos, this documentary tells a cautionary tale of a powerful leader whose questionable sense of reality divided the Philippines.
Imelda Marcos has been an inspiration for Jose Marie sta. Iglesia while developing his collection Diamonds in Diapers. The project questions the role of fashion and beauty in populist dynamics. In a Q&A Jose Marie unpacks his ambiguous relation with the persona of Imelda Marcos and speaks about the making process of the collection.
